Attendance and active participation in the proposed training activities (lectures and lab) and individual study will allow the student to know, through a scientific language, the basis of the structure of matter, the chemical bond, inorganic and organic compounds and the consequent properties. These acquired tools will be aimed at understanding the nature of the materials constituting a historical-artistic work, the degradation processes that they undergo, and the materials and methodologies involved in a conservation intervention.
Lessons (16 hours of teaching) are held in presence. Attendance is mandatory. Slides of the course will be upload on Teams.
A practical laboratory lesson is held.
The structure of the atom, atomic mass and atomic number, electronic configuration of the elements in the periodic table. The chemical bond: pure and covalent bond, ionic bond. Nomenclature and properties of inorganic species. Acids, bases, pH. Organic chemistry: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amines and amides. Their nomenclature. States of aggregation of matter. Macromolecular Chemistry: monomers and polymers, structure and properties of polymeric materials and their application in the field of cultural heritage. Scientific diagnostics applied to the study of cultural heritage.
Texts to be defined with the teacher, in particular the slides uploaded to Teams are important.
Ricevimento: Daily by appointment (silvia.vicini@unige.it), also through Teams channel
