OVERVIEW

The course gives essential contents of mathematics which follow the subjects developed in the first year.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course consists of two modules. The first module provides skills in mathematical methods applied to engineering, focusing on functions of several variables, Fourier series, and complex-variable functions. The second module focuses on rational mechanics, providing students with foundational knowledge in the mechanics of material systems and the ability to apply analytical mechanics to solve complex mechanical problems.

PREREQUISITES

Mathematical contents of the first year (Mathematical analysis, Geometry).

TEACHING METHODS

Students who hold valid certificates relating to Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the lecturer and the school’s disability liaison officer at the start of the course to agree on any teaching arrangements which, whilst respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning styles.

The contact details for the university’s disability liaison officer are available at the following link: https://unige.it/commissioni/comitatoperlinclusionedeglistudenticondisabilita.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Multiple integrals. Fourier series and application to periodic signals. Functions of a complex variable and use of residues. Analytical mechanics.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Lecture notes provided by the teachers.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final mark for the course will be the average of the marks awarded for the modules that make up the course. Please refer to the individual module descriptions for details regarding the respective examination procedures.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Please refer to the individual module descriptions for details regarding the respective assessment procedures.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) may request accommodations for exams at least 7 days prior to the exam date by filling out the “accommodation request form” (available via online services at https://modulionline.unige.it/richiesta-adattamenti# no-back), which will be automatically forwarded by the system to the instructor in charge of the course and to the faculty liaison for students with disabilities and SLDs in their School/Department.

The student will receive a copy of their request.
