CODE 73027 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 1 INFORMATICA 11896 (L-31 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MATH-02/A TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: ALGEBRA AND LOGICS FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The purpose of the module is for participants to acquire knowledge and understand abstract algebraic reasoning and the ability to identify similar structures in different contexts, as well as the ability to formalize in a mathematically correct way problems involving operations on sets. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the module, the student will be expected to: become familiar with logical-deductive mathematical reasoning; learn the fundamental and foundational concepts of modern mathematics (sets, functions, natural numbers, cardinality); understand and be able to apply some important results from discrete mathematics and their applications in computational contexts (Euclidean algorithm, modular arithmetic); learn to recognize and distinguish simple algebraic structures (monoids, groups). PREREQUISITES Knowledge of simple literal equations (secondary school level) and of basic trigonometry. TEACHING METHODS Lectures Students who hold valid certificates relating to Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the lecturer and the school’s disability liaison officer at the start of the course to agree on any teaching arrangements which, whilst respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning styles. The contact details for the university’s disability liaison officer are available at the following link: https://unige.it/commissioni/comitatoperlinclusionedeglistudenticondisabilita. SYLLABUS/CONTENT 1. Basic notions - Sets - Functions - Natural numbers and induction - Complex numbers - Equivalence relations - Partial orders - Cardinality 2. Discrete Mathematics - Integers - Euclidean Algorithm - Modular arithmetics 3. Algebraic structures - Monoids - Groups RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Teaching support material will be posted on Aulaweb TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD EMANUELA DE NEGRI Ricevimento: By appointment. LESSONS LESSONS START According to the calendar approved by the Degree Program Board: https://easyacademy.unige.it/portalestudenti/index.php?view=easycourse&_lang=it&include=corso Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Written examination. Guidelines for students with certified Specific Learning Disorders, disabilities, or other special educational needs are available at https://corsi.unige.it/en/corsi/11896/studenti-disabilita-dsa. ASSESSMENT METHODS Questions of the exam will concern the main topics presented during the lectures. The aim is to establish not only whether students will have reached an appropriate level of knowledge, but also whether they can analize and approach problems. FURTHER INFORMATION For further information, please refer to the course’s AulaWeb module or contact the instructor. Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) may request accommodations for exams at least 7 days prior to the exam date by filling out the “accommodation request form” (available via online services at https://modulionline.unige.it/richiesta-adattamenti# no-back), which will be automatically forwarded by the system to the instructor in charge of the course and to the faculty liaison for students with disabilities and SLDs in their School/Department. The student will receive a copy of their request.
