TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

OVERVIEW

The course provides the foundations for subsequently undertaking complex analyses in the archaeology of architecture.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide students with working methods and operational tools to analyze and understand the main materials of historical buildings: stone, brick, wood, mortar, metals. Each material will be read within its own production cycle, thus allowing a deeper understanding of good characteristics or vulnerabilities and limits of use. The “construction” system will also be analyzed as a whole, thus allowing students to understand the different ways in which buildings function (and deteriorate) starting from the main construction elements (vaults, floors, systems, finishes, etc.).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The educational objectives are to identify, understand, and analyze traces of workmanship on historical materials. Learning outcomes include conducting critical analyses of architectural artifacts made from various materials.
