OVERVIEW

The course Russian Language and Translation (code: 65322; CFU: 12) includes Theoretical Module (Modulo Teorico, 36 hours), taught by Professor Nataliya Kardanova, and practical Russian language (Lettorato, 80 hours), taught by Professors Valeria Grabovskaia (50 hours) and Nataliya Kardanova (30 hours).

The Theoretical Module lessons (36 hours) and The Practical modules lessons (80 hours) will be held in the second semester.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course will furnish students with advanced notions of Russian linguistics, a solid grammar skill, and active knowledge of Russian vocabulary and syntax.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is aimed at consolidating and deepening students' grammatical and syntactical knowledge of Russian language and at improving their vocabulary, as well as developing the skills of dialogue interpreting and translation.

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

  • use the knowledge of morphosyntactic and syntactic structures proposed in the course 
  • understand, рroduce oral and written texts and interact on everyday subjects and some professional matters proposed in the course
  • traduce oral and written texts.

 

 

PREREQUISITES

The student must have mastery of Russian language level A2-B1.

TEACHING METHODS

Classroom lectures in the second semester with the possible support of Aulaweb (Cod. 65322) and Teams (Cod. 65322) . 

Theoretical module (36 academic hours, Prof. Nataliya Kardanova):  MT teaching metods include 1. lectures, 2. personal and group reviews, group work as well as monitoring of the homework of attending students. Flipped classroom.

Student participation is highly encouraged. 

Practical Modules (Lettorato): 80 academic hours of Lettorato include 50 hours of the first Lettorato (Prof. Valeria Grabovskaia) + 30 hours of the second Lettorato (Prof. Nataliya Kardanova).

MT (36 hours, 3 hours per week) and the Lettorato (30 hours, 3 hours per week) taught by Professor Kardanova, in addition to lessons, involve group work, monitoring of the work of attending students and flipped classroom teaching.

Student participation is compulsory.

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Verb and noun, adjective, and numeral morphosyntax. Pronoun. Adverb. Prepositions and conjunctions. Particles and interjections. Participle. Gerund. Verb aspect. Verbs of motion. Simple and complex sentence. Sentence intonation. Active and passive constructions. Historical, political, and cultural aspects of contemporary Russia.

Basic knowledge of preparing for liaison translation and sight translation.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Theoretical Module (Prof. Nataliya Kardanova): oral exam with essai (text and glossary) prepared by the student . 

Practical Modules ("Lettorato").

Prof. Valeria Grabovskaia: written exam (lexico-grammatical test, active and passive translation).

Prof. Nataliya Kardanova: oral exam (conversation on topics, liaison interpretation, active and passive sight translation).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The finale exam grade is calculated with the grade of the MT exam (50% of the finale grade) and the grade of the Lettorato exam (50% of the finale grade).

Theoretical Module  (Nataliya Kardanova): oral exam (with essai prepared by the student) aimed at verifying the student's familiarity with the topics taught in the classes, also in the analysis of the proposed syntactic structures, in the production of oral discourse and in liaison interpretation. 

Practical Modules ("Lettorato").

Prof. Valeria Grabovskaia: written exam (lexico-grammatical test, active and passive translation) aimed at checking the knowledge of the topics.

Prof. Nataliya Kardanova: oral exam (conversation on topics, liaison interpretation, active and passive sight translation) aimed at verifying the student's ability to use the morphosyntactic structures when talking (topics of everyday life, current affairs and the professional field), as well as in carrying out liaison interpreting or active and passive sight translation.
