OVERVIEW

Sports Medicine represents a multidisciplinary branch that allows for a global vision of the medical aspects related to sports and motor activity.

Learning these aspects will allow students to address their resolution in a multidisciplinary manner, having specific training in the various branches of Sports Medicine.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The educational module aims to raise awareness of the main medical and trauma issues related to sports activity through a systematic analysis of the main systems; the correlation between clinical events and athlete performance; and the physiological and pathophysiological parameters of the main systems involved in physical activity.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course of sport medicine is aimed to provide students with basic knowledge of cardiovascular and respiratory physiopathology in association with agonistic and amatorial sport. The cause will also introduce the most relialable techniques and instruments to evaluate physiopathological response of athletes to phisical exercise. A major part of the program will also be focused on the pharmacological malpractices linked to doping, smoking and drug abuse.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching will be composed of front lessons.

In case of certification of specific learning disability, disability or other special educational needs, please contact both the Department contact person, Prof. Nicola Girtler, and the lecturer at the beginning of the lectures to agree on teaching and exam methods which, in compliance of the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory/dispensatory tools recognized by the University SLD Student Service.

Certification in sport: aims, methods and professionals

• Certificate for agonistic sport: first, second and thir level check
• Certificate for non agonistic sport
• Strategies for the prescription of physical exercise
• Training evaluation tests

Physiopathological aspects of the cardiovascular system in sport

• Cardiovascular adaptation to static and dynamic physical exercise
• Cardiovascular pathologies and risk of exercise-induced death in young athletes and masters

Physiopathological aspects of the respiratory system in sport

• Spirometry
• Respiratory volumes

Doping and drug abuse in sport sport

• WADA phoibited substances
• Anti-doping techniques
• Tobacco: dependence and strategies of discontinuation.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam  will be composed of a written part in form of a quiz.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The quiz will be composed of 15 questions with 4 to 6 possible answers of which only one is the most appropriate. Each correct answer corresponds to 2/30.

The exam will be considered positively passed when total scores is higher or equal to 18.
