Specific attention is given to the discussion of each law applicability and limitations and to the adoption of models and schematic descriptions to deal with real-world problems. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is providing the necessary bases for the comprehension of physical phenomena of electromagnetism and developing abilities to address in a quantitative and relational way simple problems. The course will allow to familiarise with the fundamental laws that allow the evaluation of electro-magnetic fields in simple configuration and to approach to the study of simple electical networks. TEACHING METHODS The course foresees 40 hours of theoretical explanation and 20 hours of exercises guided by the lecturer or the tutor. All the contents are covered during the course, the usage of the suggested books is recommended. The final exam includes written and oral test. As part of the innovation learning project adopted by the Bachelor Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering, novel tools will be also used for the active learning of students. The goal is to increase students' skills via interactive, experience-based, learning methodologies (e-learning, teamwork, etc.) for enhanced student participation, using an advanced level of communication that makes the student more aware and autonomous. Students with valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the professor of the course and with Professor Federico Scarpa (federico.scarpa@unige.it ), the Polytechnic School - Engineering's disability liaison. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Electrostatic: Coulomb's law and electric field, Gauss's law, potential energy and electric potential. Capacitor and capacity.
