OVERVIEW

The goal of this course is to provide an introduction to production operations management and industrial logistics by deepening the basics of operations management. The course will focus on Operations strategy and supply chain through different methodological and procedural steps of design and management of complex industrial systems and subsystems (factories and logistic nodes). The design and management of production and service systems are the operational capabilities on which the students will focus. Starting from the fundamental drivers of operations performance, the course aims to guide the student in processing, reworking and structuring the information coming from  various company information systems in order to coordinate and manage the flows of materials in the most appropriate way in the production chain, making sure that productive resources are exploited in the optimal way, taking into account their limits and constraints, according to the modern paradigms of a digital and sustainable factory.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The integrated course provides the theoretical and methodological foundations for the advanced management of logistics and production systems, bridging intra‑organizational and inter‑organizational perspectives across the supply chain. It develops competencies in the analysis and control of operational, logistics, and production processes through quantitative and qualitative methods, including performance measurement, resource planning, and supply‑chain alignment. Emphasis is placed on process modeling under uncertainty, variability management using statistical techniques, and the application of optimization and AI algorithms to support the digital and sustainable transformation of industrial systems.
