OVERVIEW

The course analyzes the socio-cultural and politiical-economic contexts that determined tha birth and development of journalism and the journalistic profession from the Modern Age to the present time, so to offer skills to those who intend to work in the information field..

In addition to Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Russia ancd the United States will also be consedered. 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide students with knowledge of the historical development of the press and other media (radio, television) in major European countries and the United States, from the 19th century to the recent emergence of digital media and their impact on traditional journalism. Furthermore, it will provide students with the ability to critically and comparatively evaluate the differences between various journalistic models and to independently pursue further in-depth studies.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will acquire adequate knowledge in relation to

the historical development of journalism and other media (radio, television) in the main European states and in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries,

the recent emergence of digital media and their impact on traditional journalism,

the evolution of the laws that regulate the principles of publishing.

He will thus be able

 to evaluate critically and in comparative terms the differences between different journalistic models,

to present the topics covered by the program corrently and using an appropriate language,

to independently carry out further investigations.

PREREQUISITES

Basic knowledge of the main historical processes of the Contemporary age.

A good  knowledge of Italian.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of lectures for a total of 36 hours (6 Cfu), also with the use of powerpoint. It is in Italian and held in face-to-face teaching mode only.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The development of journalism from 1700s to the present time, in general terms, also with reference to technological innovations, and in relation to France, The United Kingdom, Germany, Italia, Russia and the United Stetes.The diffusion of radio and television in the above states.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam, that covers the entire program,  is  oral, in Italian and takes place exclusively during official exames sessions. It lasts approximately 20 minutes.

. Foreign students  can held it in English.

Only if requested on the base of justified needs it can be kept in written form.

For students having Carriera Ponte exam 6 credits it is taken in regular exam sessions

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam consists of two questions relating to the entire program. 
The exam is passed if both answers are sufficient. 
In the event that one of the two answers is insufficient, a third question will be asked. 
An additional question will be asked about the chosen reading indicated in the program.
