TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB

OVERVIEW

The laboratory, which consists of 32 hours of lectures, has the main objective of consolidating students’ English skills, starting from pre-intermediate level and working towards the ultimate objective over five years of reaching the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.  Special emphasis will be placed on the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching English in primary schools and kindergarten.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Course description: The laboratory aims to provide students with the competence they need to be able to teach English as a foreign language to infant and primary school children. The lessons and class work are designed to boost all the main language skills (listening, pronunciation, reading, writing, knowledge of vocabulary and grammar), though the main focus will be on speaking. By the end of the lab, students will be expected to have reached at least level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, this being the first step towards attainment of level B2, which is the target for the end of the 5-year course.

PREREQUISITES

There are no specific requirements.

TEACHING METHODS

Work in the classroom will be conducted interactively and, to encourage this and facilitate participation, students will be divided into two groups.

The idea of the lab is for students to take an active part in the lesson.  Minimum compulsory attendance:  80% of the 32 hours of the course.

Students with DSA, disability or other special educational needs are recommended to contact the professor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and exam methods which, according to the course’s objectives, take into account the individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

This English laboratory is aimed at pre-intermediate level (A2 of the CEFR) with particular reference to the most appropriate structures and skills for teaching in primary schools and kindergarten.  It is the first of five labs, aimed at reaching upper-intermediate level (B2), as required by the Ministry of Education.

The laboratory contributes to achieving the following UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goal:

Goal 4 - Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
