AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide the students with the analytical tools which are fundamental to understand the political processes that characterize contemporary history; allow the students to orient themselves in this area in the panorama of historiography; encourage a critical approach to events between past and present.

TEACHING METHODS

The course includes 18 two-hour lectures; during the lectures slides will be projected, documents distributed, discussions organized. Attending students will also present individual research on lesson topics.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course is divided into two parts: a general part, which aims to trace the fundamental features of the genesis, development and transformation of political parties and movements in Italy and in Europe between 19th and 20th centuries, and a specific section dedicated to training and prospects of European parties (EPP, ESP, SE, ALDE, Greens, etc.), as well as the role played by the movements for European unity in the EU integration process. Special attention will be devoted to the topic of Euroscepticism, to the Sixty-Eight, and to the history of the non-global movements.
