SEMESTER 1° Semester

OVERVIEW

Many organisations have adopted information systems and automated a large part of their processes. Consequently, it is useful to have adequate knowledge in order to understand how different applications work. In particular, this teaching unit aims to introduce students to the logic that characterises accounting applications by illustrating the procedures of a specific Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Similarly, the course teaches students about artificial intelligence and how to utilise AI chatbots.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The purpose of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills required to use the main functionalities of accounting software. Specifically, the course aims to give students the know-how to record business operations and carry out reporting tasks using the Onda iQ Vision software, made by EdiSoftware and adopted by SMEs. Furthermore, the course offers a series of lessons related to artificial intelligence and accounting, intending to introduce students to the use and interrogation of AI chatbots and to an understanding of the related implications.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the teaching unit the student will have acquired the necessary knowledge about the paradigmatic features of ERPs and will be able to:

  • Identify the main operations of the sales cycle and purchasing cycle
  • Carry out entries and changes on the master data and chart of accounts
  • Distinguish the type of records and document changes that the proposed operations require
  • Apply the knowledge acquired to make the main accounting entries and produce reports
  • Effectively craft requests to AI chatbots and obtain valuable outputs through interaction

PREREQUISITES

No prerequisites

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching unit will take place in the IT room and will use the following teaching methodologies:

  • face-to-face lectures aiming at working on knowledge and comprehension of ERP and AI chatbots concepts and operating logics
  • face-to-face tutorials to explain software procedures and prompt engineering techniques, and exercises to develop the capability to carry out them.

The course may be attended by a maximum of 24 students.

Students with disabilities, SLD or SEN

Students with disabilities, with SLD or with SEN are reminded that, to request exam accommodations, they must first upload their certification to the University website at https://servizionline.unige.it, in the “Students” section. The documentation will be checked by the University’s Services for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and with SLD.

At the beginning of the course, students are advised to contact the lecturer to agree on exam arrangements which, while respecting the learning objectives of the course, take individual learning needs into account.

To request compensatory tools or dispensatory measures, students with disabilities or SLD must fill in the dedicated Webform available at https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa, at least 7 working days before the exam.

Students with SEN may instead send their request by e-mail to the lecturer, copying the Department Representative, Prof. Elena Lagomarsino, at  inclusione.economia@unige.it, and the Inclusion Office inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it.

Requests from students will be assessed by the lecturer and may be approved or rejected.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The teaching unit focuses on demonstrating how to use AI chatbots and ERP systems through explanations, demonstrations and simulations aimed at meeting the accounting needs of companies. The unit develops along these content lines:

  • The management of chart of accounts and master data
  • The book-keeping entry (credit entry, debit entry)
  • The sales cycle
  • The purchasing cycle
  • The accounting entries necessary for annual financial statement closing and the production of financial reports
  • Artificial intelligence in accounting
  • making requests to AI chatbots and the basic techniques of prompt engineering.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

The presentations employed by the lecturer and the supplementary material provided by Edisoftware are to be used for the students' examination preparation.

The slides used by the lecturer will be available on Aulaweb. The support material provided by Edisoftware consists of multimedia content accessible through a web portal regulated by access credentials. Attendees will be issued with the necessary credentials.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The assessment of learning will be conducted through a practical test and the presentation of a team project.

The practical test comprises four exercises to be carried out by the student using the Onda iQ Vision software.

The duration allocated for completion of the examination is 40 minutes, and a minimum of two correctly completed exercises is required to pass.

In the team project, students will apply their AI knowledge by presenting the results of a particular activity or study.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Conducting the examination on ERP software enables the verification of students' learning of the notions provided and the acquisition of application skills.

Teamwork is used to evaluate students' acquired knowledge and their ability to collaborate effectively in the joint management of tasks, problem-solving and communication.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Pre-registration (spontaneous registration through Aulaweb) is recommended for students intending to attend.

It is mandatory for at least 75% of the lessons to be attended in order to be eligible to undertake the exam.

It is important to note that attendance is valid for a duration of 14 months after the conclusion of the teaching unit.

Ask the professor for other information not included in the teaching schedule.
