OVERVIEW

The French language course aims to provide students with written and oral proficiency corresponding to level B1 of the CEFR in French, to meet the demand in the tourism sector, including the ability to understand simple texts. The four skills of oral and written comprehension and production are developed, with particular attention to oral skills and through the development of projects created and presented by the students themselves. Specifically, the theoretical module of the second semester involves the creation of tourist itineraries in French related to the Ligurian or French territory, which students develop using multimedia tools (PowerPoint and Prezi), as well as terminology skills (terminology sheets, use of terminology tools). The language practice course will instead focus on acquiring morphosyntactic and communicative skills in French, with particular attention to contexts of use in tourism.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, the student will have acquired a written and oral mastery of the French language that is at the B1 level of the Common European Framework for Languages, which will will enable him/her to respond to demand in the tourism sector, including the ability to manipulate and elaborate texts specific of tourism communication. The following will be developed in parallel The four skills of oral and written comprehension and production. The analysis of authentic documentation related to the tourism will form the basis of the teaching material.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The French language course develops B1-level proficiency for cultural tourism, focusing on oral and written skills. It covers lexical, morphosyntactic, and phonetic challenges for Italian speakers, explores digital tourism, and includes practical exercises with native speakers. Students learn specialized terminology, adapt communication strategies, and create multimedia tourist itineraries.

PREREQUISITES

The A2 level is required to attend the lessons. During the first lesson, a placement test will be conducted to verify that students have an A2 level of proficiency in French. If students do not pass the test, they will be required to complete a 40-hour online course independently, after which their language level will be reassessed.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Part I: Language Practice (60 hours – First Semester): Basic morphosyntactic topics of the French language (check the detailed program on Aulaweb).  Part II: Metalinguistic Reflection (54 hours – Second Semester): Tourist itineraries: vocabulary, structure, text types, and terminology of French for tourism.The entire course will follow a structured progression, focusing on typical situations and challenges in the tourism sector, with particular attention to responding to tourist demands in French. Gradually, various communication types will be addressed, including oral interaction, telephone communication, digital communication, comprehension and production of short and simple written texts, and digital hypertexts.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Computer-based written test, mainly focused on morphosyntactic knowledge and pragmatic and comprehension skills (written and/or oral). Oral interview with the presentation of a tourist itinerary and a terminology sheet.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam will assess the ability to produce and understand statements and texts in French with a good degree of accuracy (B1 level of the European Framework). The oral exam will verify the ability to produce simple texts related to the tourism sector and to engage in discussions on tourism and terminology topics.The evaluation will primarily consider the following parameters: quality of presentation, correct use of specialized vocabulary, and the ability for critical reasoning based on theoretical study
