AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES In this course, the long-term economic development is studied. The course traces the main transformations of the international economy starting from the industrial revolution; it focuses on some significant issues, such as population, agriculture, international commerce, manufacturing, and finance. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the teaching unit, students should be able to: identify and describe the main stages of economic development from the pre-industrial age to the dawn of the 21st century; evaluate the importance of the factors conditioning the current economic context as a result of historical transformations in the past, making use of the examples discussed in class; use the basic disciplinary vocabulary to express the acquired concepts appropriately. PREREQUISITES There are no specific requirements. TEACHING METHODS Lectures will address the topics outlined in the syllabus. Self-assessment exercises will allow students to evaluate their understanding of fundamental concepts in the discipline. Attendance is not compulsory. The test is passed if an overall mark of at least 18/30 is obtained. Further details on the structure of the test will be explained during the lectures and published on the Aulaweb page of the teaching unit. The examination procedures are the same for attending, non-attending and Erasmus students. ASSESSMENT METHODS The exam will assess the level of acquisition of basic knowledge in relation to the topics developed during the lectures and contained in the textbook. In particular, the ability to correctly situate the proposed topic in the period and context of reference, to adequately illustrate the most relevant aspects, and to express oneself with appropriate terminology will be taken into account. Exam registration is mandatory.
