OVERVIEW

The course in General Psychology is designed to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of human behavior and key psychological functions (e.g., perception, emotion, motivation, memory, learning) through which people interact with the environment and process representations of themselves and their surroundings. Particular emphasis is placed on applications within the contexts of motor sciences and sport.

The teaching aims to provide basic knowledge about psychological dynamics, applied to the world of sports, for a better methodological approach to motor activities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental theories and concepts of General Psychology and to recognize the growing role of psychological processes in optimizing sport performance and promoting psychophysical well-being. They will apply conduct bibliographic searches using specific academic databases, critically analyze scientific literature in psychology, assess the reliability of sources, and practically apply the knowledge gained. In addition, students will develop knowledge of the rationale and basic skills in the use of tools for the assessment of psychological and cognitive functions (e.g., performance tests and self-report questionnaires) covered during lectures.

TEACHING METHODS

The course consists of frontal theoretical lectures and the presentation of reference scientific papers open to class discussion. Group activities on the topics covered in lectures will also be proposed.

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), disabilities, or other special educational needs are encouraged to contact the lecturer and the School/Department disability officer at the beginning of the course to arrange any teaching accommodations that, while respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning needs.

The General Psychology course will focus primarily on three areas:

• Methodology and research techniques in psychology.
• Key psychological functions through which individuals interact with the environment and develop representations of themselves and their surroundings (e.g., attention, emotions, motivation, memory).
• Applied aspects related to motor sciences and sport performance.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Student preparation will be assessed through a written test with multiple-choice questions. Passing the General Psychology module, together with the other two modules of the Integrated Course (Sociology and Pedagogy), is a mandatory requirement for the final grade to be recorded.
