AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The Physics course aims to provide the essential knowledge of physics needed to understand natural phenomena and biological processes, with particular emphasis on applications in the biomedical field. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Knowledge and understanding By the end of the course, students will be able to: acquire the terminology and methodology of the physical sciences; know and describe the fundamental laws of physics; describe, understand and quantitatively interpret the main physical aspects of the world around us, with particular reference to topics of relevance to the life sciences. Applying knowledge and understanding By the end of the course, students will be able to: appropriately apply the laws of classical physics to describe and interpret elementary phenomena involving motion, energy, and the thermal, electrical and magnetic properties of matter, correctly using the units of measurement of the most common physical quantities and being able to convert between equivalent units of measurement; apply these laws to solve problems and numerical exercises; clearly explain the procedure used to arrive at their solution; demonstrate an understanding of the scientific method used to measure and critically interpret physical phenomena. Making judgements By the end of the course, students will be able to: critically evaluate information; form informed opinions; relate the knowledge acquired to the contents of subsequent stages of their degree programme. Communication skills By the end of the course, students will be able to: clearly and effectively communicate information and knowledge. Learning skills By the end of the course, students will be able to: learn independently and continuously; keep their skills and knowledge up to date; use the methodology acquired during the course to independently and continuously learn topics relevant to their degree programme PREREQUISITES The required prior knowledge corresponds to the Physics content included in upper secondary school curricula, as established by the National Guidelines for Licei and by the guidelines for Technical and Vocational Institutes. As specified in Article 4, paragraph 6, of Legislative Decree No. 71 of 15 May 2025, with regard to the educational provision for the filter semester, the provisions concerning the assessment of the knowledge required for admission to degree programmes (Additional Learning Requirements, OFA) do not apply. TEACHING METHODS In-person lectures, with the option of attending remotely. Attendance is compulsory and will be monitored using the University’s Easy Academy platform. The exams are held on the same day and time at all universities offering the filter semester. Students register for the exam through the dedicated platforms made available by the universities and take the exams at the locations indicated by the university where they attended the filter semester. The exam procedures are outlined in Annex 2 of Ministerial Decree 941/2026. ASSESSMENT METHODS The methods for assessing acquired knowledge are reported in Annex 2 of Ministerial Decree 941/2026.
