OVERVIEW

The course is composed of two parts.

The module "Applied physics" includes thermodynamics and heat transfer, whose knowledges are mandatory for a student in industrial engineering. Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer are treated according to a practical point of view, with reference to engineering applications, such as production and conversion of energy systems.

The module "Energy systems" provides students with technical and methodological instruments for analysis of energy systems. The module also includes contents on systems based on renewable sources.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The Applied Physics unit is aimed at providing basic knowledge of applied thermodynamics and heat transfer, with specific attention to cycles, thermal plants, thermo-fluids, heat transfer foundations. Theory will be integrated by practical examples. The Energy Systems unit aims to provide technical methodological tools to tackle the study and design of traditional and innovative energy systems, with particular attention to sustainability aspects. In detail, it analyzes the behavior of different types of systems and their environmental impact.

PREREQUISITES

Although no specific prerequisites are present, the course will use basic concepts of Mathematical Analysis and Physics.

TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam of the module "Applied physics" is an oral test (a written test is optional).

The exam of the module "Energy systems" is an oral test.

See the parts related to the two modules for more details.

Students with a certified learning disability (DSA), a disability, or other special educational needs are invited to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to discuss teaching and examination arrangements that, while respecting the learning objectives of the course, take individual learning needs into account and provide appropriate accommodations.
Please also note that requests for exam accommodations or exemptions must be submitted using the form available at this link https://modulionline.unige.it/richiesta-adattamenti#no-back, to the course professor, the DIME contact person (federico.scarpa@unige.it), and the relevant office ( inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it) at least seven working days before the examination, in accordance with the guidelines available at this link https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa/richiesta-servizi

ASSESSMENT METHODS

For the module "Applied physics" the official oral exam typically includes one or two questions, plus a preliminary exercise (similar to those done in class during practice sessions) to be completed on the blackboard. However, it is possible to do a written test plus an oral one.

For the module "Energy systems" the exam will be carried out with oral questions that can be supported by writing (on the blackboard or a paper sheet).

See the parts related to the two modules for more details.
