AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES - Acquire knowledge of the principles of anesthesia and intensive care. - Understand local anesthetic drugs, indications, contraindications and complications. - Recognize and manage the main medical emergencies in the dental office. - Apply Basic Life Support (BLS) protocols and first-response procedures. - Cooperate with the dental team in patient safety and clinical risk management. TEACHING METHODS Teaching activities include lectures, case-based discussions and practical training sessions on BLS and medical emergency management. Attendance requirements follow the Degree Course regulations. SYLLABUS/CONTENT 1. Principles of Anesthesiology. 2. Local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors. 3. Preoperative assessment and ASA classification. 4. Patient monitoring and vital signs. 5. Pain and anxiety management in dental patients. 6. Medical emergencies in dentistry: syncope, seizures, allergic reactions, hypoglycemia, acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrest. 7. BLS-D and use of the semi-automatic defibrillator. 8. Elements of resuscitation and airway safety. 9. Clinical risk management and patient safety. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY - G. ASSESSMENT METHODS Learning assessment is based on the final examination. Students must demonstrate knowledge of anesthesia and resuscitation principles, the ability to recognize and manage common medical emergencies in dentistry, and the correct application of BLS protocols.
