The course is divided into two modules: Reliability and Safety of Ship systems and Propulsion Plants. The Reliability and Safety module deals with RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) engineering disciplines applied to ship systems and Risk Analysis applied to ships. The Ship Propulsion Plants module deals with the operating principles of marine propulsion for different types of ships. Particular attention will be given to the aspects related to dynamics and control. Both the theoretical / methodological and practical aspects will be illustrated, with particular emphasis on advanced design and numerical / implementation aspects. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The module focuses on the study of marine propulsion systems and addresses topics related to Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS). Marine systems are analyzed through a dynamic and detailed modelling of the various components, taking into account their mutual interactions. Risk analysis is introduced, and an example FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) of a plant is presented, along with techniques such as "learning from accidents" applied to marine scenarios. The course also covers design aspects from a perspective that catches the technological trend of the field. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of static methods for the design of marine propulsion systems and auxiliary systems. Basic knowledge of the principles of naval architecture. Principles of programming.
