OVERVIEW

The 'Physics' module, together with 'Physiology 1', is part of the Integrated Course 'Physiology 1 and Physics'.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the teaching is to provide fundamental knowledge of physics, to address the solution of problems in both qualitative and quantitative terms in a preparatory manner for the core subjects.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to equip students with the ability to solve physics-related problems from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives, albeit with a focus on selected topics, providing the fundamental background required for subsequent discipline-specific courses.

Students are expected to acquire a solid understanding of the basic principles of mechanics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, thermology, and thermodynamics, with particular emphasis on topics most relevant to degree programs in Sport and Exercise Sciences. Rather than relying solely on memorization, students will be encouraged to develop the ability to understand, reason, and establish connections among physical concepts.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures, both theoretical and dedicated to solving exercises.

In case of certification of specific learning disability (SLD), disability or other special educational needs, students shall contact both the SLD Representative and the Lecturer at the beginning of the course, to agree on teaching and examination methods, in compliance of the teaching objectives, to provide suitable compensatory/dispensatory tools recognized by the University SLD Student Service.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Written test. Students shall solve physics problems (typically, 5-7 short exercises) relating to the topics addressed during class hours. Exam duration is typically 45 minutes.

In case of certification of specific learning disability (SLD), disability or other special educational needs, the University legislation and regulations on disability and SLD are applied. Students with SLD or other certified special educational needs shall contact the lecturer/examiner (Prof Costagli) and the Department contact person (Prof Girtler) at least 10 days before the exam, to request for additional time to take the test, and use support notes, which must fit a single A4 sheet.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam will verify the student's ability to correctly approach real problems using the knowledge and skills acquired during the physics course. The test will be considered passed only if the student achieves an overall score of at least 18 points out of 30.
