E ADATTATA 11889 (LM-67 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/10 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: INTERNAL MEDICINE PATHOLOGIES AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The educational objectives of this teaching are to know and strengthen the preparation on the main diseases of the respiratory system, to deepen the connection between respiratory issues and physical activity, providing guidelines and limits of movement in subjects affected by respiratory system diseases. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES • Provide foundational knowledge of the structure and function of the respiratory system, with particular emphasis on respiratory physiology at rest and during physical activity. • Offer basic clinical understanding of respiratory diseases, especially those that limit physical activity and sports performance. • Train students to recognize the main signs and symptoms of respiratory diseases. • Introduce students to the principal instrumental diagnostic techniques used in the assessment of the respiratory system. TEACHING METHODS Lectures and exercises. SYLLABUS/CONTENT • Structure and function of the respiratory system: upper and lower airways, lungs, respiratory muscles, pulmonary ventilation, pulmonary perfusion, and respiratory control systems. • Semeiotics of the respiratory system: dyspnea, cough, cyanosis, and the elements of physical examination. • Instrumental diagnostic tests: spirometry, lung volumes, and arterial blood gas analysis. • Ventilatory anomalies: obstructive and restrictive patterns. • Gas exchange and respiratory failure. • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): diagnosis, essential principles of pharmacological treatment, and rehabilitation approaches. • Bronchial asthma: diagnosis and therapeutic strategies. • Pulmonary fibrosis. • Neuromuscular disorders affecting respiratory function.
