CODE 118112 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING FOR ENERGY TRANSITION 11955 (LM-28) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/32 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester OVERVIEW The course aims to present the applications of static converters in electrical networks, both from the perspective of conversion topologies and from the perspective of their control and the consequent interaction with the electrical network. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The module aims to present laboratory applications by applying the knowledge of static energy conversion and control theory. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Provide students with the ability to understand the operation of static converters in applications supporting the electrical network. By the end of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Describe the sizing of converters considering their operation under steady-state conditions. 2. Describe how fault conditions in the electrical network require resizing the converters beyond steady-state conditions. 3. Complete power electronics projects from the initial design phase to a finished project. 4. Learn to find the resources needed to understand and solve problems encountered in the laboratory. 5. Manage social interactions with a collaborative attitude and constructive communication. 6. Demonstrate independent decision-making, collaborative thinking, management of human and material resources, coordination, negotiation skills, and uncertainty management. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of C language programming and elements of control theory TEACHING METHODS The teaching methods are oriented to stimulate the practical interest of the students, the aptitude for team work, the ability to solve problems. The lessons, held in hardware laboratory, provide for direct involvement in the activities of students and teachers, also through division of tasks and responsibilities. During the first lesson, students will organize themselves into groups of two or three students who will work together throughout the semester, collaborating with each other to complete the assigned projects independently with the help of the teacher when necessary. ASSESSMENT METHODS The students are required to explain to the teacher the results of computer and hardware laboratory activities and to respond to specific requests in relation to what has been presented, as well as to demonstrate the operation of models and prototypes.
