Do you have a foreign baccalaureate degree?

If you have a foreign baccalaureate diploma, you will have to take a test of knowledge of the Italian language. If you fail the test, you will have to take a remedial Italian language course at the Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana per Studenti Stranieri.

like all other students.

Imperia Campus

For the Computer Engineering replica based in Imperia you will have to take an initial preparation test (A.T.H.E.N.A., Aptitude Test for Higher Education in Numeracy and Analysis) to assess your knowledge of mathematics and computer science.

In addition, if you do not have an English language certificate of level B2 or higher, you will also have to take the section of the test concerning B2 English language proficiency.
The certificates accepted at the University are listed on the dedicated CLAT page. If your certificate is verified as compliant, your English proficiency level will be recognized as B2.

This is not a selection or limited access test and will be available in several sessions during the first semester.

The test can be taken only once.

If you do not achieve the minimum score required in the initial preparation test or in the English language proficiency section, you will be given Additional Educational Obligations (Obblighi Formativi Aggiuntivi, OFA) which you can fulfil within the first semester of the first year of the programme.
OFA are considered fulfilled by acquiring the required ECTS, that is by passing the exam of one of the following subjects GENERAL PHYSICS 1, LINEAR ALGEBRA AND GEOMETRY, MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS MOD 1 (exams and lectures are in English). If you do not fulfil your OFA within the deadline for submitting your second-year study plan, you will have to register as a repeat student.

Disabled students and students with Specific Learning Disorders (Disturbi Specifici dell'Apprendimento, D.S.A.) will be subject to specific verification procedures, following their request and after submitting the certifications indicated in the University regulations.

Exemption from the test

  1. Students who have obtained a score of 90/100 or more (or equivalent score, in the case of a grade not in hundredths) in the final state examination of the second cycle of higher education in Italy (maturità). The exemption does not apply to foreign diplomas.

  3. Students already in possession of a degree in Italy or abroad.

  5. Students enrolled in the academic year 2023/24 (and not "dropouts") who transfer from a "related" course of study at the University of Genoa and who are not burdened by O.F.A. The courses considered "related" are published in the Courses of Study

  7. Students making a transfer from another university or a readmission and who have a sufficient number of CFUs, which will also be assessed in relation to the priority subjects of the particular course of study. In cases of doubt, the CCS will decide.
  8. Students of the Penitentiary University Pole (PUP).

The exemption does not apply to the English language test, unless a language certificate of level B2 or higher is presented.

What it is

The test lasts a total of 90 minutes and consists of answering 50 proposed multiple-choice questions in English divided as follows:

Computer culture 20 questions
The questions will focus on general culture and computer science knowledge.

Logic and Mathematics 20 questions
Assessment of the ability to logically complete an argument in a manner consistent with the premises, which are stated in symbolic or verbal form by means of multiple-choice questions.
For the mathematical part, the questions are aimed at ascertaining the mastery of:

  • numeric sets and arithmetic calculation (natural, relative, rational, real numbers; ordering and comparing numbers; order of magnitude; operations, powers, radicals, logarithms), algebraic calculation
  • Euclidean geometry (polygons, circumference and circle, measurements of lengths, surfaces and volumes, isometry, similarities and equivalences, geometric places)
  • elements of plane trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent function and their inverses, fundamental relations of goniometry, formulas of associated angles, theorems of the right triangle).

English language 10 questions - compulsory only for those who do not present a language certificate of level B2 or higher among those accepted by the University
This section of the test is aimed at ascertaining comprehension of the English language.

The test will be held at the Polo Universitario Imperiese between September 2024 and February 2025.
