LABORATORIO DI BIOFLUIDODINAMICA is a practical introductory course to Fluid Mechanics. The course is semi-annual, takes place in the second semester. It includes 8 hours of lessons aimed at providing some theoretical foundations and 30 hours of laboratory activities, distributed in 3 hours a week. 3 credits will be awarded for the course achievement.
Working students and students with SLD, disability or other special educational need certificate, are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, in compliance with the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning modalities.
Practical teaching aimed at acquiring fundamental operational knowledge on types and properties of fluids in relation to biomedical applications.
The module intends to provide the basic knowledge of some material properties. The knowledge of these concepts is aimed at biomedical applications.
Attendance and active participation to lectures and individual study will allow the student:
-acquire knowledge on the properties of fluids and the fundamentals of fluid kinematics;
- learn some techniques and tools for measuring the properties of a liquid;
- visualize and measure the flow field of a fluid;
- deepen methodologies for the analysis of fluid motion;
- apply some principles of hydrodynamics in the laboratory;
- experimenting with models aimed at biomedical applications in the laboratory;
- autonomously use advanced measurement and data analysis techniques.
- assessing personal learning of fluid mechanics concepts based on what has been understood and learned in the laboratory
- managing the execution of collaborative group experiments
- demonstrating independent decision-making and a collaborative attitude during laboratory experiments
Basic notions of physics
After the first introductory classroom lessons, they will take place in the laboratory.
Laboratory sessions will involve conducting experiments that allow for the visualization of real-life situations which introduce and delve deeper into the fundamentals of fluid mechanics. Workgroups will be organized, requiring collaboration to solve cases or problems proposed by the Professor. This will be followed by a discussion of the data collected in the classroom with the Professor. At the end of the course, each student will present the results of the laboratory activity analysis.
Students who are working or have certifications for Specific Learning Disabilities, or other special educational needs are advised to contact the Professor at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into consideration individual learning styles.

Written report on laboratory activity and discussion.
The attendance of practical lessons in the laboratory is required in order to write the report and to perform the related discussion at the exam.
The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of the basic instruments useful for characterizing a fluid and its properties.
The student will have to demonstrate knowledge of some basic tools, useful to characterize a fluid and its properties, and the basic working principles of the instruments employed.
