The course aims at providing the students with the tools needed for studying the most relevant mechanical components for the engineering field and at introducing them to the measurement of the main physical quantities involved in their application. Students will therefore be provided with the basic tools for modeling and analyzing mechanical systems.
Particularly, the mechanics applied to machines module presents the fundamentals of machine mechanics, taking into consideration both aspects related to the application of the principles of mechanics to the analysis of mechanisms, mechanical transmissions and machines, and morphological and functional aspects of the main components which they are based on.
The measurement and instrumentation module will introduce the functioning and operation principles of common instruments for engineering applications, the measurement principles, and basics of statistical analysis. The course will provide general criteria to select simple measurement systems for a given application, based on different physical measurement principles, on the uncertainty analysis, the signal conditioning, and the data recording.
