The Integrated Course of Clinical Pathology I and Medical Technical Sciences is the first course of the first year CDS characterizing the profession of Biomedical Laboratory Technician. Students, after having followed the lessons common to all the study courses of the health professions, in the integrated course will have the first approach on Laboratory Medicine and its fundamental bases, in order to have knowledge that will allow them to understand the subjects dealt with. in subsequent years of the Course.
Acquire basic notions on analysis laboratories, the organization and knowledge of the specificities in the various laboratory branches; acquire in-depth knowledge about blood components, the function of the bone marrow and the maturation processes of the various blood cell lines, with the related pathologies; acquisition of the techniques for the execution and reporting of the blood count and the search for pathological Hb variants; acquisition of skills on primary and secondary hemostasis, coagulation factors, related pathologies and laboratory tests associated with assessment of haemostasis; acquisition of the quality bases and verification of the reliability of the laboratory results; know the meaning of diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, methodological sensitivity and specificity, ROC curves, positive and negative predictive values; calibrations and quality controls; spectrophotometry and colorimetric reactions enzymatic reactions, potentiometry, turbidimetry and nephelometry, laboratory errors and phases of the analytical process; urinalysis and health legislation; cardiac markers, acid-base balance, blood gas analysis, immunosuppressant drugs and urgent/emergency toxicological tests. Methods for determining the main parameters dosed in clinical chemistry, quality and interpretation of clinical data; interference.
Have passed the preparatory exams as required by the Teaching Regulations.
