The course provides the basic notions regarding the theory of dynamical systems, their formal representation, the structural properties of systems and the concept of feedback.
The learning outcomes of the course refer to the capacity of:
Besides these learning outcomes, the student who will actively participate to lessons and team working activities can acquire the following soft skills:
The course prerequisites refer to the contents of the following courses: Mathematics; Physics, Geometry.
The teaching methods consist, first of all, in lessons by the teacher. Moreover, some team working activities will be organized in which the students will solve some exercises and implement some software under the supervision of the teacher. The team working activities will allow the students actively participating to acquire social skills (basic level) and the capacity of learning to learn (basic level).

The exam is oral. During the exam, the student has to solve some numerical exercises and to discuss the theoretical aspects related to such exercises.
Students with learning disorders will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities.
The exam aims to verify the following aspects about the knowledge of the student:
- knowledge regarding the main characteristics and properties of dynamic systems and the design of simple regulators and state observers
- ability to apply this knowledge to numerical examples and simple physical systems
The evaluation of the exam will take into account not only the knowledge of the contents addressed in the course but also the reasoning and critical analysis skills of the student, as well as his/her capability to use a technical lexicon appropriate to the context.
