The course is composed of a theoretical module and practical exercises.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at giving students advanced knowledge and competences both in terms of tools for metalinguistic analysis and in-depth analysis of specific points, including different LSP. It is accompanied by practical language courses, held by native French teachers, at an advanced level.

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

- express knowledge obout linguistic variation phenomena;

- recognize and interpret such phenomena in the context of French and Italian by using linguistic theory on variation;

- manipulate texts which present variation phenomena.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course will deal with variation phenomena in their diatopic, diastratic, diaphasic and diamesic dimensions (therefore in a synchronic perspective) within the French speaking world.
Texts (belonging to different genres and media, such as literature, comics, film, etc.) will be analysed.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The theoretical module exam aims at verifying the acquisition of theoretical knowledge about linguistic variation in French and the ability to apply this knowledge to the specific analysis of a text. The student will have to be able to identify and analyze the phenomena that appear in a specific text, using theoretical knowledge in an appropriate way.

The exams concerning the practical exercises aim at testing the students’ ability to understand oral and written texts, interact with other speakers, reformulate, and express articulate and complex personal opinions, at level C1 of the common European framework for languages.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Theoretical module: written exam (2 hours) consisting in the analysis of variation phenomena in a written text in French.

Practical exercises: oral exam (manipulation of oral text) and written exam (manipulation of written text).

FURTHER INFORMATION

The inscription to Aulaweb is compulsory both for students who attend lessons and for those who cannot attend them. The inscription to the exams is compulsory and available up to 3 working days before the exam (if not otherwise specified).

Students will be allowed to sit the theoretical module for the 3rd year only after succeeding in the theoretical module of the 2nd year.
