AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide theoretical, methodological practices (including through laboratory activities) for a critical approach to the image and audio-video production in different contexts of communication. LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO) The course includes: an overview of the diachronic-historical film medium, a specific study of the documentary language and a monographic part of a prominent author in the history of cinema. TEACHING METHODS Lecture, slide show movies from DVDs and PC. Vision of at least five films, selected freely between the program's history of cinema and the monographic part on Alfred Hitchcock. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course is organized through lectures in which will be proposed elements of theory, history and critical analysis of the film; during the lessons films will be projected about the syllabus (or extracts thereof). The first phase of the course is focused on the history of cinema: the dawn, as a fairground attraction, until the affirmation of it as the main communication medium of the century, through aesthetic technical, communicative, economic, productive and distributive modifications that have and followed that characterized it. The study of film language of movements, schools, authors and the individual works that determined the history of cinema will be the focus of the educational path. During the course will be also taken into consideration the history of the documentary, through the analysis of the works of some of the authors that have marked this area film of enormous interest, from silent films to contemporary. The monographic part of the course focuses on the work and on the poetry of one of the masters of cinema of all time, Alfred Hitchcock. Of the British-born American author will be considered the entire creative trajectory: the first films in the UK, the works of the American period. Class schedule IMAGE AND COMMUNICATION EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The examination consists of an oral interview. Vision of at least five films, freely selected between the program's history of cinema and the monographic part of Alfred Hitchcock. The examination focuses on a commentary about the films seen, particularly on the critical analysis of film language. Further examination fields are the author's film poetic, the historical context in which the work was created, the connections with the history of cinema. ASSESSMENT METHODS Recommended viewing of the films present in the media library of the Campus Library of Savona. The list of recommended films will be announced via Web classroom during the academic year. In the Campus Library has two monitor workstations for viewing stored in the media library films. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will acquire adequate knowledge and effective understanding of the history and the language of cinema, its many branches. CAPACITY 'TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: Students will be able to apply their knowledge to understand and critically analyze audiovisual communication products. Making judgments: Students will be able to use the knowledge to develop an autonomous path of knowledge and research on the audiovisual medium. ENABLE 'COMMUNICATION: Students will acquire the typical discipline technical language to communicate clearly and unambiguously with interlocutors specialists and non-specialists. CAPACITY 'LEARNING: Students will develop appropriate learning skills to allow them to continue to independently investigate major issues of discipline especially in the workplace in which they will operate.
