The course aims to provide theoretical, methodological practices (including through laboratory activities) for a critical approach to the image and audio-video production in different contexts of communication.
The course includes: an overview of the diachronic-historical film medium, a specific study of the documentary language and a monographic part of a prominent author in the history of cinema.
Lecture, slide show movies from DVDs and PC.
Vision of at least five films, selected freely between the program's history of cinema and the monographic part on Alfred Hitchcock.
The course is organized through lectures in which will be proposed elements of theory, history and critical analysis of the film; during the lessons films will be projected about the syllabus (or extracts thereof). The first phase of the course is focused on the history of cinema: the dawn, as a fairground attraction, until the affirmation of it as the main communication medium of the century, through aesthetic technical, communicative, economic, productive and distributive modifications that have and followed that characterized it. The study of film language of movements, schools, authors and the individual works that determined the history of cinema will be the focus of the educational path. During the course will be also taken into consideration the history of the documentary, through the analysis of the works of some of the authors that have marked this area film of enormous interest, from silent films to contemporary.
The monographic part of the course focuses on the work and on the poetry of one of the masters of cinema of all time, Alfred Hitchcock. Of the British-born American author will be considered the entire creative trajectory: the first films in the UK, the works of the American period.
