Lingua e traduzione inglese II is made up of four parts: a theoretical part (modulo teorico) and three practical parts (lettorati). The lettorati deal with technical and scientific translation, juridical translation and interpreting. The information below concerns the theoretical part.
This course aims at providing students with specialised competence in English linguistics and translation both from a theoretical and a practical point of view. It also aims to look at various text typologies and their characteristics and to promote critical awareness of the translating strategies and linguistic tools identified during the course.
30 hours (3 hours over 10 weeks) to be held mainly in class and, to a lesser extent, through distance learning. Active participation on the part of students is required.
During this course, which will be held in English, the theoretical principles of stylistics will be applied to source text and target text analysis. Translations, mainly from English into Italian, will deal with a number of text typologies. Active participation on the part of students is required.

Theoretical module: second semester
Practical modules: first semester
Oral exam
The oral exam, lasting approximately 20 minutes, may be taken only after passing all the other 2nd year lettorato exams. It consists in the analysis of a short passage or of a short passage and its Italian translation. The analysis must reveal awareness of the main practical and theoretical issues concerning interlinguistic translation.
It is strongly recommended to enrol on the course on Aulaweb a couple of weeks before it starts.
