AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

This course aims at providing students with specialised competence in English linguistics and translation both from the point of view of theory and of linguistic and stylistic analysis. It also aims to look at various text typologies and their characteristics and to promote critical awareness of the linguistic tools identified during the course, with particular reference on their implications for translation.

TEACHING METHODS

36 hours (3 hours over 12 weeks) to be held mainly in class and, to a lesser extent, through distance learning. Active participation on the part of students is required.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course provides an overview of the major concepts central to the expression of point of view in English (such as modality, transitivity, deixis, etc.) and an application of the theoretical issues raised to the linguistic and stylistic analysis of a variety of text types. Active participation on the part of students is required.
