OVERVIEW

Introduction so specialized translation from English into Italian. The "Theorical module" coimprises in-class reading and discussion of theorical texts and work on specific texts, journalistic, literary etc.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides students with advanced competences in English linguistics and translation, with emphasis on metalinguistic analysis and translation theory, as well as on particular aspects such as special languages and the media. The course is taught by a main lecturer and by experts and collaborators, among them translators and interpreters, and includes practical exercises in consecutive interpretation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

At the end of the course the student

-- will be well informed on aspects of specialized translation;

-- he will be able to address these aspects in English and Italian;

-- will be able to interpret and translate specialized texts related to media, information, politics, economics etc.

TEACHING METHODS

This is a course of translation from English to Italian for first-year graduate students. For the 30-hour Theoretical Module (Prof. Bacigalupo) there will be 2-hour weekly classes, October 2016 to April 2017. Class work will include consideration of texts of various types, chiefly journalistic.Texts will be provided beforehand on Aulaweb.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

There will be a translation in class of a given text (dictionary permitted). Studnets will also prepare a short thesis with examples and comments on selected studies.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Thew lecturer and a colleague in the same field will avaluate the translation and paper according to crtieria that will be explained in class.
