OVERVIEW

The course promotes the acquisition of knowledge about criminology, as well a personal reflection about the possibility of using it in the professional field, both for psychological students and for students in pedagogics and education.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge of the interdisciplinar nature of criminology and of its etero-definition; knowledge of the main approaches to the field (both in the psychological sciences and in the sociological ones), and of their evolution since its beginnings; knowledge of the main problems in the fields of crime prevention  and criminal treatment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

The course will promote a common approach to criminology for different professionals, so that each of them can grow in the discussion with the others ; moreover, for psychological students, the course will explore the field of psychoforensic sciences, with the connected problems (e.g., interventions with unwilling or manipulating clients); and, for pedagogical students, the limits and possibilities of treatment with deviants and/or criminals will be discussed.

Frontal lessons, using also material retrieved online; seminars; participation to events organized by the Professor.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

COMMON PART (FOR ALL THE STUDENTS)

General part: the development and the contexts of criminological research; recorded crime and dark number; the personality of the criminal; family context and criminality; migration and criminality; prevention, treatment and control of criminality. Special part: narrative criminology: criminological narratives of the criminal and about the criminal: different theories; the psycho-social approach to criminology.

MOREOVER, JUST FOR THE STUDENTS OF THE "MAGISTRALE" IN PSYCHOLOGY

Forensic psycopathology and psychology: psychology and law; the psychiatric expertise of the criminal; the psychological evaluation of the victims of crime; the psychological evaluations in the field of child custody, adoption and parenting; ethical and deontological problems in the professional activity of the forensic psychologist.

Pedagogical interventions with criminals and delinquent youngsters.
