The course wants to provide to students an introductory analysis of the main aspects of human communication - stressing its social characters - both in its face-to-face dimension and in its technologically mediated forms (mass media).
Main aim of the course is to provide students with a general introduction to the domain of human communication and of its tools, on behalf of a sociological point of view.
Normally, the first three weekly hours will be dedicated to a teaching lesson, while the fourth one will be devoted to class discussion.
The analysis of human communication will be developed starting from social obstacles and limitations to communication, and it will then focus on the contemporary phenomena of globalisation and on the dominant role played by television and the internet in post.modern societies. The course will also deal with specific forms of communication, such as scientific communication and the relation between language and power.
