OVERVIEW

PATOLOGIA DELL'APPARATO LOCOMOTORE E REUMATOLOGIA

The module PATOLOGIA DELL'APPARATO LOCOMOTORE E REUMATOLOGIA develops a thorough understanding of the main diseases of the Locomotive Apparatus , in Trauma/Orthopaedics and Rheumatology; Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy intervenes to recover the disturbances of the locomotive system and compasses all the “ hands on ” manual techniques and exercise prescription for the relief or prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

AIMS AND CONTENT

The module PATOLOGIA DELL'APPARATO LOCOMOTORE E REUMATOLOGIA delivers what happens when injuries occur and how to treat and manage them. The unit aims to provide students with the knowledge of the patient's healing process, to define an appropriate rehabilitation action according to the biomedical and psycho-social model. As with all areas of physiotherapy, the assessment is very important; then, with manual therapy , exercise prescription and other therapies, musculoskeletal physiotherapy improves and prevents the disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

The aim of the class is to deliver the basic scientific knowledge to interpret the trauma and rheumatological recovery to improve the quality of life for the patient on a daily basis and to describe the right rehabilitation based on ICF model. To achieve this, it is important to evaluate and monitor the signs and symptoms of the patient, to know the main measurement rehabilitation scales and how to decline the rehabilitation treatment according to the patient's clinical history.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course Ortopedia e Traumatologia aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Know the trauma recovery and the clinical diagnosis of the patient;
  • Know about Imaging to identify the main physioterapic  controindications;
  • Know about the surgical / conservative treatment for the relief of disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

The course Reumatologia aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Know the main Rheumatological diseases;
  • Know the main symptons;
  • Know that, because Rheumatological pathology develops often in chronic diseases, it can restrict daily activities.

The course Riabilitazione in Ortopedia e Traumatologia I aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Practice the right physiotherapy for the right rehabilitation phase;
  • Know the rehabilitation goals in the main problems based on skeletal apparatus: aedema, pain, weakness, less of ROM and function, such as standing and walking;
  • Know the importance of the formulation of an individualized rehabilitation plan and evaluation of its effectiveness;
  • Know the main clinical assessment scales;
  • Describe the fundamental aspects of the main physical processes, and know the indications/controindications about Instrumental Therapy.

The course Riabilitazione in Reumatologia aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Understand the main Rheumatological diseases, both inflammatory than degenerative;
  • Provide the necessary planning skills for physiotherapy and rehabilitation, consistent with the biopsychosocial vision proposed by the WHO through the International Classification of Functioning.

The course Scienze fisioterapiche in ortopedia e reumatologia aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Know evidence based physiotherapy and Guidelines
  • Know the signs and symptoms that should ring alarm bells; currently, a common system is the red and yellow flags.
  • Know and apply Rehabilitation Protocol for: Rotator Cuff Repair , Anterior Shoulder Reconstruction , Glenohumeral Instability; Elbow Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstruction; wrist and hand fracture ; Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Herniation;  Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI); ACL Reconstruction Protocol; meniscal repair; Achilles Tendon Repair; Ankle Sprain; Total Hip, Knee, Shoulder and Ankle Arthroplasty.

The course Approfondimento: Valutazione del paziente ortopedico secondo criteri ICF aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Search and find the better EBM treatment method for the patients;
  • Improve the daily activities and the quality of patient life.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures (20 hours).

Lectures are performed in all the teaching location by owners teachers and are explained with slides and videos. The Students/Teachers percentage report allows a direct comparison and an use of collaborative methodology, discussion about rehabilitation and working groups.
