OVERVIEW

The course is directed at students who want to learn the basic concepts regarding  air conditioning systems design and regulations on energy saving.

AIMS AND CONTENT

Air conditioning systems: concepts of psychrometry, heat transmission, thermal and hygrometric behavior of building walls.

To Provide basic knowledge of the maximum dimensioning of air conditioning systems. To Analyze technical and legislative regulations at national and regional level in relation to energy efficiency and thermo-hygrometry. To Introduce solar working principles (thermal and photovoltaic)

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Wellness conditions in confined spaces. Calculation of thermal loads in winter and summer mode (response factor method). Heating systems with analysis of all components: plant terminals, distribution networks, pumps, regulation and generation systems. Network Dimensioning. Energy Consumption in Buildings, UNI-TS Regulations. Air conditioning, mixed air conditioning, monozone and multizone air conditioning systems. Design criteria. Energy performance certificates and recent legislation. Solar energy: types of solar thermal collectors, efficiency and solar collector systems; Solar photovoltaic panels, structure and type of photovoltaic cells, used materials, peak power coefficient, electricity generation.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam is divided into two parts: the first part consists in evaluating classroom exercises; The second part consists of an individual interview on the basic notions of the course aimed at verifying the preparation of student on the themes developed during the lessons and individually deepened in the texts indicated in the essential bibliography.

In general, students must demonstrate synthesis and exposure skills as well as ability to critically reprocess and effectively utilize acquired knowledge.
