    AIMS AND CONTENT

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the basic physical knowledge needed to understand the procedures for calculating the energy performance of buildings, with reference to building envelope, technical plants and exploitation of renewable energies. The aim of the teaching is to train a subject able to solve simple problems in thermodynamics and heat transfer and acquire an adequate technical-scientific language, indispensable tool for understanding the technical documentation and dialogue with the different stakeholders in the processes of design, certification and energy audits of buildings.

    TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and numerical exercises aimed to solve basic problems.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The main topics are the following.
PHYSICS: mechanics, statics of fluids, notes of electricity.
APPLIED THERMODYNAMICS: thermodynamic systems, temperature, heat, work, first law of thermodynamics for closed and open systems, second law of thermodynamics, dynamics of fluids, thermodynamic properties of pure substances, direct and inverse cycle thermal machines, vapour compression inverse cycle: refrigeration and heat pump.
HEAT TRANSFER: conduction, convection, radiation, combined mechanisms of heat transfer, note on energy saving in buildings.
Numerical exercises to solving elementary problems are carried out.
