OVERVIEW

The course aims to address the estimation problems inherent the construction and urban transformation processes, from the programming to the design and execution phase.

In particular, the course deals with the techniques for assessing the economic sustainability of projects and plans at different levels of implementation.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide students with the theoretical and operational tools for facing and solving evaluation problems regarding the economic sustainability of projects and plans at the building and urban scale.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course's objective is to teach the assessment methodologies that allow:

- the evaluation of the economic and financial feasibility of private projects;
- the evaluation of the economic and financial feasibility of public interventions;
- the evaluation of design solutions through multicriteria methodologies.

The methodologies dealt within the course allow to face up the most frequently evaluation questions in the professional field at the various phases of project.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is developed in three levels:

  • lectures;
  • thematic analysis by consulting documents and others materials available on-line (aul@web site course);
  • a practical activities by mans the development of evaluation exercise to be carried out individually or in work group.

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course is divided in two parts:

First part

  • the evaluation of economic sustainability of plans and project
  • type of evaluations: monetary and no-monetary
  • elements of financial mathematics

Second part

  • the Discounted Cash Flow Analysis (DCFA)
  • the Cost Benefits Analysis (CBA)
  • the Multicriteria Analysis (MCA

The student will develop, individually or in group, an exercise on the evaluation methods treated within the course.

The exercise is compulsory to stand the exam.

The theoretical and operational learning assessment is carried out:

- through the evaluation of the exercise (mandatory) carried out individually or in group;
- through the individual colloquy that aims to find out the theoretical and operational tools learned during the course.
