AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide basic and applied electrochemistry culture essential to describe the behavior of electrochemical cells used in the energy field (batteries and fuel cells) and environmental (electrolysis cell).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching module aims to provide the student engineer a culture based on electrochemistry and / or applied to industrial processes. At the end of the course the student should be able to analyze the kinetics of an electrochemical reaction and to carry out a preliminary design of an electrochemical reactor operating in galvanostatic or potentiostatic regime.

TEACHING METHODS

The course is based on theoretical lectures and laboratory experiments.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Electrochemical reactions

Electrochemical cell component

The rate of the electrochemical reactions

Transport processes

Electrochemical reactors and their performance

Electrochemical reactor design

Applications of the electrochemical technology

Laboratory experiments: cyclic voltammetries, rotating electrode, fuel cell, electrochemical oxidation of organic compounds

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam includes a written test and an oral exam.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The written exam consists of performance evaluation or sizing of an electrochemical system. During the oral exam the student will have to answer questions regarding the components of the electrochemical cells, the electrode kinetics and transport phenomena and industrial applications of batteries, fuel cells or electrolysis cells. Reports on experiences carried out in the laboratory will be evaluated and discussed during the oral exams.
