The main objective of this course is to enable students to understaind that every human activity produces an impact on people health. WHO defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, therefore it depends to a harmonious and balanced relation between human and the natural and social environment.
This course provides basic concepts of enviromental factors which influence human health from also biological point of view.
Acquisition of the basic concepts of health promotion and prevention.
Understanding the importance of the prevention in order to maintain a high level of individual and global health.
Acquisition of the basic concepts of environmental hygiene.
Students must be able to apply the knowledge that they have acquired and must have the skills in order to project a Health Impact Assessment.
"Classroom" teaching and group activities to develop the subjects dealt with during the class lessions.
Planning of an project of enviromental evaluation.
Concept of health. Health promotion and health education. Infectious diseases and chronic-degenerative diseases. Basic concept of epidemiology. Health prevention. Sanitary problems associated with water supplying. Potable water treatment. Liquid waste: treatment and disposal. Indoor environment: microclimate and pollution. Air pollution. Ionizing radiation. Environmental risk assessment and Health Impact Assessment.

The lessons will begin from the second semester.
Obligatory written examination consisting of 30 “closed-answer” questions with only one correct answer and of one “open” question. Oral examination on request by the student, in order to improve the score obtained in the written examination. Assessment of the environmental projects carried out during group activities.
The written format has been adopted in order to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the entire course is assessed in an objective manner. This modality is deemed to be able to correctly evaluate the achievement of both the general and specific training objectives.
