AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES This course addresses advanced topics in structures, considering advanced materials and structural elements AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES This course addresses the following topics: Introduction to advanced and contemporary construction materials and structural systems Detailed analysis and design of mixed steel-concrete structures Design criteria of structures for special performances Principles of environmental sustainability in structural design TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons Monographic seminars with external experts Experimental tests in lab SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course addresses the following topic: 1. Technological innovation in structural design - evolution and design of mixed steel-concrete structures - innovative solutions in the seismic design of buildings; - innovative solutions in floor design; - structural design of non-structural elements (façade and curtain panels). 2. Structural design for special performances - structural robustness; - resistance to fire; - durability of structural systems; - building site management; - cost efficiency. 3. Environmental sustainability of structures - principles of environmental sustainability; - design criteria to reduce the environmental impacts of structures; - Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of structural systems.
