OVERVIEW

German morphology, syntax and lexis

The course is a 9-credits-course  consisting  of

- a theoretical module of 30 hours (held in the 2nd semester) in which basic facts of German syntax are presented and illustrated;

- an applied module of 100 hours dedicated to the development of oral and written competence in the German language.

- to have a good command of the different procedures of word formation in German language

- to be able to operate morphological analysis of compositions and derivations

- to master the flexion of nouns, verbs and adjectives in German language

- to know the structure German sentences and syntactic phrases

- to be able to operate syntactic analysis of complex paratactic and hypotactic sentence constructions

- acquisition of knowledge about the main syntactical theories

- acquisition of basic knowledge about linguistic semantics and lexicology / lexicography of German language

- die unterschiedlichen Wortbildungsverfahren des Deutschen beherrschen

- morphologische Analysen von Komposita und Derivaten durchführen können

- die Nominal-, Verbal- und Adjektivalflexion des Deutschen beherrschen

- die Struktur des deutschen Satzes und der Phrasen kennen

- syntaktische Analysen von komplexen parataktischen und hypotaktischen Satzkonstruktionen durchführen können

- Kenntnisse der wichtigsten syntaktischen Theorien besitzen

- über Grundkenntnisse der linguistischen Semantik und der Lexikologie / Lexikografie des Deutschen verfügen

TEACHING METHODS

The theory lectures (30 lessons, 2nd semester) will be accompanied during the whole academic year by practical language exercises. The language classes begin in October 2017; time schedules, programs, instructors and auditoriums will be published in Aulaweb and on the websites of the single instructors will be announced in October 2017. The language exercises include yearlong grammar lessons.

Teaching method: Lecture accompanied by language exercises.

Lessons will be held in Italian and German language.

Die theoretischen Lektionen (30 Stunden, II. Semester) werden von ganzjährig stattfindenden praktischen Sprachübungen (Lektorate). Die Lektorate beginnen im Oktober 2017; Unterrichtszeiten, Programme, Dozenten und Aulen, in denen Unterrichte und Tutorate stattfinden, werden bis Oktober 2017 auf den Webseiten der Dozenten und in der Aulaweb bekannt gegeben. Der Lektoratskurs umfasst zusätzlich einen ganzjährigen Grammatikkurs.

Vorlesung mit begleitenden Sprachübungen (Lektorat).

Die Unterrichtseinheiten werden in italienischer und deutscher Sprache durchgeführt.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

In the theory class students will familiarize with fundamental knowledge about syntax of the German language and parsing procedures. After a general survey about the most important aspects of the structure of the German sentence, knowledge about German morphology and methods of word formation will be improved.

At the end of the class an introduction to linguistic semantics and lexicology / lexicography of the German language is scheduled, considering the linguistic terminology also in German language. The linguistic structures of the German language will be explained by examples of various textual typologies.

Im Theoriemodul sollen die Studenten mit Grundkenntnissen der deutschen Syntax vertraut gemacht werden. Nach einem globalen Überblick über zentrale Aspekte der Syntaxtheorie und der syntaktischen Analyse, werden Aspekte der Wortbildung und der morphologischen Analyse vertieft. Ferner sieht der Kurs eine Einführung in die linguistische Semantik und die Lexikologie / Lexikografie der deutschen Sprache vor, wobei die Studenten die linguistische Terminologie in deutscher Sprache erlernen. Die linguistischen Strukturen des Deutschen werden anhand von Textbeispielen unterschiedlicher Typologien illustriert.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The theory lessons will be concluded by a written exam in which the arguments treated during the class will be asked about. The languages classes will be completed by written exams and an oral exam. During the written exam at the end of the theory class the students have to provide evidence of their profound knowledge of the arguments dealt with during the lessons, the designed texts and the materials published in Aulaweb.

In der schriftlichen Prüfung nach Abschluss des Theoriemoduls und an den darauf folgenden Prüfungsdaten werden die während des Kurses behandelten Themen geprüft. Die Lektoratskurse schließen mit schriftlichen Prüfungen und einer mündlichen Prüfung ab. Während der schriftlichen Prüfung nach Abschluss des Theoriemoduls soll die Kandidatin/der Kandidat auch Kenntnisse der angegebenen Lektüren und der in der Aulaweb zur Verfügung gestellten Materialien nachweisen.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Language level A2 in German language is required for participation.

The exam is obligatory for students in the second year of the course of studies in Modern Languages and Cultures.

The program of the course is valid until February 2018 in accordance to the departmental regulation.

Deutschkenntnisse auf dem Niveau A2 sind Voraussetzung zur Teilnahme.

Der Kurs ist obligatorisch für eingeschriebene Studenten im zweiten Studienjahr im Studiengang LCM.

Das Programm ist gemäß der Studienordnung bis Februar 2018 gültig.
