OVERVIEW

The course is designed to help students gain confidence and ability in their reading skills for specialised psychological texts. It uses authentic material taken from a personality theory course at an American university  

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at giving students familarity with specialised lexis so as to help them understand research articles in English with greater confidence.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Lingua e Traduzione Inglese is a course designed to help students become acquainted and familiar with academic English of a psychological nature. Students should have at least a B1 level of English to be able to tackle the articles to be studied.

 

TEACHING METHODS

Lessons in small groups with access and reference to online material

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

We will be using e texts by Professor George Boeree  which address psychoanalytic, behavioristic, and humanistic schools of thought. There will be 2 hour laboratory sessions for all the students in small groups based on these texts with additional material to help reinforce fundamental grammar issues.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is written with an eventual oral for attending students whilst non attenders will have both a written and an oral.

The  written exam consists of comprehension exercises designed to assess the students' familiarity with academic lexis

An example of the written exam will be posted on the online noticeboard. Non attenders should make an appointment to decide on the contents of their exam.

There is no mark for this exam only pass or fail.
