AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Answering the ambitious - but inevitable - question "what is the human being?" using rational arguments and relying on the contributions of sciences and philosophy. Being able to outline the set of themes and main perspectives in this field. In-depth study of (at least) a classic of this field and a particularly relevant theme. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Contents for students who are taking the 6-CFU course Human nature in Philosophy. The following topics will be addressed: methods and objects of philosophical anthropology, in relation to other sub-fields of philosophy, natural sciences, and humanities. Different perspectives on philosophical anthropology. Continuity and discontinuity in the interpretation of the Human: mind and body, nature and culture, desire and rationality, speculative reason and practical reason. Examples of ancient and modern philosophical anthropology. Contents for students who are taking the 9-CFU course 1. Human nature in Philosophy. Philosophers and Diversity How philosophers discussed diversity among human beings, with arguments ranging from universalism to relativism, from identity to difference, subjectivity and alterity.
