OVERVIEW

Students will develop the theoretical tools needed to answer fundamental questions about knowledge and reality, through an evaluation of classic and contemporary theories. Giving a special importance to the questions that shed light unto human nature, whose answers imply conceptual analysis, strong arguments and mental experiments, in order to clarify problems which always relevant.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Contents for students who are taking the 6-CFU course

One of the main contemporary issues is that States, religions and other subjects deny some people's rights and obligations because of prejudices and stereotypes that have a philosophical origin. The course, through Socratic dialog, will focus on investigating the reasons why this happens.

Contents for students who are taking the 9-CFU course

One of the main contemporary issues is that States, religions and other subjects deny some people's rights and obligations because of prejudices and stereotypes that have a philosophical origin. The course, through Socratic dialog, will focus on investigating the reasons why this happens. The course will address problems that concern homosexual people's rights vs. heterosexual people's rights, the problem of "diversity", of happiness and the problem of the brevity of life. The course will host lectures by Monica Cirinnà, Christopher Hughes, Vittorio Lingiardi, Francesca Vecchioni.
