OVERVIEW

Individuals and social contexts are considered inseparable by the community psychology; they create an ecosystem whose knowledge is essential to understand the people’s behavior and to increase their well-being. Working in the perspective of community psychology, through its methods and techniques, means acting on relational and group processes, territorywise as a community that can sustain well-being.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to promote the psychologist education in socio-cultural, organizational and territorial context related to the person, groups and the community well-being. In particular it aims to train the ability to offer multi-level interventions, to read the contexts in preventive perspective, deepening the work of communities within the social and health services.

TEACHING METHODS

The course will alternate lectures introducing methods and techniques, with investee lessons through the presentation of interventions in the field. Group activities can be also arranged to promote active learning methodologies of community psychology.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The following techniques will be analyzed in detail: analysis and writing of community profiles; organizational analysis of institutions, groups, associations; development and construction of community evaluation and intervention projects.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The knowledge acquired during the course will be assessed through a written test. Through this procedure, theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired by the student will be assessed. Lectures attending students will be assessed  during the course.

Students must apply for the exam through the website before taking the test.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Through direct questions enabling them to investigate the knowledge of the techniques and methodologies of community psychology, and/or through the presentation and critical analysis of reference cases will be assessed learning outcomes.

Students will have to gain adequate knowledge and an effective understanding of the psychology of community in order to perform psycho-social interventions.

Students will have to use, both conceptually and operative mode, the knowledge gained from self-evaluation skills and expertise in different application contexts.

Students will have to acquire the typical discipline technical language to be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously with specialists and non-specialist interlocutors.

Students will have to develop appropriate learning skills to allow them to independently investigate major issues, techniques and methods of discipline especially in the workplace in which they will operate.
