Philosophy of interfaith dialog aims at exploring the paths towards a hermeneutic approach to the relationships between different religions; its ultimate goal is finding a meeting point for dialog and mutual benefit. The antecedents of philosophy of interfaith dialog are the imaginary dialogs between representatives of different religions, a popular theme in European philosophy (see Saint Justin, Abelard, Nicholas of Cusa, Bodin, Lessing...).
Students will learn to set a philosophical discourse as a possible meeting point for an interfaith dialog that overcomes apologetic and polemic positions; starting from common questions, which are fundamental to human existence, several answers - from several traditions - will be compared. Seminars will enable students to analyze a few classics of this field, and to compare them to contemporary positions and debates.
Students will develop their critical thinking and their philosophical consciousness regarding the theme of contemporary religious pluralism.

Theorizing religious pluralism
The course's aim is to achieve a "categorization" of religious pluralism through a reflection which draws from speculative assumptions and which takes into account the religious pluralism in 20th century theology. Religious pluralism is a fact which is assumed in contemporary society, but on a theoretical and theological level it still needs to be adequately theorized.
