The whole wide world is crossed by different kind of border and lines who divide at different level people, territory, waters and skies. Material borders and symbolic borders who acts in many different ways. The course will lead students to analyze the consequences of the different division in the past and in the present, often built on self representation and fiction that could become real.
The course analyzes the symbolic construction of different communities and the limits they put on to define themselves in many different ways as: nationalism, ethnicity, racism, religion, etc.
1) knowing the terms and stakes of the debate in contemporary anthropology, and its political implications.
2) developing one's sensitivity towards the connection between forms of life, knowledge systems, and forms of humanity.
