Course objective is the application of basic chemical engineering concepts (mass balance, kinetic law, stoichiometry, energy balance, etc.) to the design of heterogeneous chemical reactors.
lectures and numerical problems
General characteristics of reactors with two and three phases. Correlations for gas-liquid reactors: bubble columns, gaslight, plate columns, packed columns, falling film reactors, mechanically agitated devices. Correlations for liquid-liquid reactors: spray columns, perforated plate columns, static mixers, mixer-settlers. Solid-fluid catalytic reactors: fixed bed reactors, moving bed reactors, fluidised bed reactors. Gas-liquid-solid three-phase reactors. Multifunctional reactors: classification of multifunctional reactors (with mass transfer, with energy transfer, with momentum transfer).
