The course of Rheumatology aims to guide the student to acquire knowledge of the major diseases of the locomotor system, in the field of rheumatology and to understand the importance of early diagnosis in order to avoid the cronicity and consequently functional impairment and disability. In addition, the study of the pathophysiologic mechanisms and the clinical presentation of each rheumatic disease is the basis for planning an appropriate physical therapy and educative- rehabilitation program.
The course explain about clinical symptoms and basic elements to make a differential diagnosis among the diseases, characterizing symptoms and signs of the major rheumatic diseases. Where no early diagnosis is made and an adequate integrated multidisciplinary therapeutic program is set up, most of the rheumatic diseases have a significant socio-economic impact as they tend to chronic, resulting in functional impairments that limit the patient's quality of life ( disability).
At the end of the course and after a suitable study period the student will be able to: - know about clinical symptoms and have basic elements to make a differential diagnosis among the major diseases, characterizing symptoms and signs of the major rheumatic diseases. - Understand that where no early diagnosis is made and an adequate integrated multidisciplinary therapeutic program is set up, most of the rheumatic diseases have a significant socio-economic impact as they tend to chronic, resulting in functional impairments that limit the patient's quality of life ( disability).
